Rob, I hadn't thought about that aspect of this translation. I'm interested to see how the people respond to the new translation. No doubt, we will be using it for many years.

As a person who speaks multiple languages myself, word-for-word translations almost never yields the spirit in which a phrase is said. I contend that a mass that is less understandable in the name of precision they are trying to achieve is an equal disservice. The words are precise, the meaning of them is much less so.

Slavic, Romance and Germanic languages all lend themselves to the approach they took because their grammar, word formation and conjugations lend themselves to unpacking a great deal of meaning from a few words. English as a language gets it's precision more simply by generally adding words to shape the meaning of the previous words. I would counter that the English translation was lazy and a product of contempt for the language by the Church. Employing Latin grammar with English words is hardly "the Vernacular".

If the goal is as they say, to achieve a more precisely executed mass, the logical absurdity is just go ahead and start saying it in Latin again.

Here's to waiting another 10 years form them to fix this one...

Love the "praise specific" point. Far too often we just say things like "good job" without specifically honoring them for the specific contribution.

Definitely. We could learn so much by just experiencing liturgy and ministry in other parishes and churches. Even more if we engaged in regular, honest dialogue with the leaders of those churches and parishes.

Hello Greg and band,

My name is Michael Gagnon, the youth director at Good Shepherd in Cumming, GA. I am working with a team from around the Archdiocese of Atlanta to recreate the "Rise Up For Life" Lock-In on Sunday, Jan 22nd; an overnight conference for high school teens centered on pro-life issues. Between 4PM - midnight we will have Mass, 1-2 keynote speakers and Eucharistic Adoration. The event will take place at Our Lady of Mercy high school in Fayetteville, GA.

We are currently looking at what options we have (either 1 musician throughout the night or different musicians for various parts). Would you be available on Sunday, Jan 22nd? If so, would you be available from 4PM - midnight or just part of the time?

Heather, I have learned alot from Brother Sean. I don't give money, but I will give food if I have it, and I always let people know I love them and that Christ loves them. Love you Heather!

This was truly moving and has inspired me to react differently to the homeless and Pam-handlers. I met so manyin ATL that I was wary of around downtown - now I see that maybe they just needed someone to listen and take notice of their existence, that they still matter. Thank you for sharing this.
